Seigneur Voland

Funeral was one of France's earliest black metal bands. Oddly enough the band's misdeeds (well documented in Michael Moynihan and Didrik Soderlund's book, Lords of Chaos) gained more attention than their music. Xaphan, Funeral's frontman, conceived of a new band while incarcerated for grave robbery. Seigneur Voland formed in 1999 upon Xaphan's release. The band released a few splits with other like-minded French bands, and this ep. Typical of the French black metal bands, Seigneur Voland incorporate a great deal of melody into their music. One might even call this ep "beautiful". The band split in 2002 but recently reformed to play some gigs in their country. Members of this band have also been involved with the bands Finis Gloria Dei, Blessed In Sin, Kristallnacht, and Desolation Triumphalis.

Seignur Voland, BTW, is an archaic French name for Satan...just in case anyone was curious. And yeah - this band, Kristallnacht, & Desolation Triumphalis are pretty fucking amazing!

Going back over some of the old stuff I missed before finding your blog. Amazing stuff. Quick question: did Funeral ever record, and if so, have you any of their stuff?

Funeral did a tape called "Black Flame of Unholy Hate" one that was a split with Osculum Infame as well as another that was a split with Morke. All the Funeral stuff and Kristallnacht stuff has been released on CD and LP called "Kristallnacht Blood Drenched Memorial 1994-2002" There is also another CD collection called "Kristallnacht The Funeral Years" See, Laurent that was in Funeral went on to do Kristallnacht and decided to release old Funeral recordings as Kristallnacht ones. He was also a member of Seigneur Voland and Desolation Triumphalis. Hope that answers your questions.

Thanks Aesop, I'll track that down. That's exactly why this blog is head and shoulders above most of the others!
